Therapy FAQs in Evanston, IL

  • What are your fees?

Individual and Couples Therapy - $200

No-show and cancellations in less than 24 hours - $200.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

I take check, credit cards, and Zelle to karen@karengreenberglcsw.com.

  • Do you take insurance?

I am not in-network with insurance.  While I take payment at time of service, I am happy to submit a courtesy claim on your behalf.  The claim will go towards your out-of-network benefits.  Depending on your deductible and plan, any reimbursement from insurance will go straight to you.  I can also provide a superbill with all the necessary billing codes and information should you need it.

  • How long are sessions and how often will we meet?

Sessions are 50 minutes.  Most clients meet weekly, though we can assess together if you feel like you want to meet more or less often.

  • What is the first session like?

The first session I want to get to know you and what brings you to therapy.  Why now?  Have you tried therapy in the past?  What worked, what didn’t?  Who is in your support system?  What do you hope to get from therapy?  I also want to leave space for you to ask me any questions you may have.  Our body holds our emotions, so I often tell people you may feel like you’ve gone through a wringer after therapy.  That’s normal.

  • What is your approach to therapy?

My primary approach is psychodynamic psychotherapy.  I explore how our past experiences and our childhoods create patterns of behavior and beliefs.  I look at unconscious motivations, defense mechanisms and coping skills, and self-reflection to move clients towards living lives that are aligned with their current values.  I believe that the therapeutic relationship between the client(s) and therapist create a safe space where the work of therapy exists.

  • Where is your office?

My office is at 708 Church Street, Suite 247, Evanston, IL 60201.  I am located in downtown Evanston, one block from the library.  Metered street parking is available, and the library parking lot is open to the public as well.  The office building has an elevator.

  • Do you offer virtual therapy?

Yes, I offer confidential telehealth which provides flexibility in scheduling and accessibility.

  • Can I get a consultation before I schedule a session?

Yes!  I welcome a free 15-minute consultation by phone or zoom before committing.  This gives you a chance to meet me, ask any questions you may have, learn more about my approach, and see if you think we’d be a good fit to work together.
